In 1900, a precious early medieval sword with a scabbard chape was accidentally found at the bottom of a well near the village of Krasnianka, ͡Kupiansk district, Kharkov province of the Russian ͡Empire, currently the territory of Luhansk province of Ukraine (Shramko 1962, 353; Kirpichnikov 1966a, 35). Both items were displayed in the exhibition of the XII Archaeological Congress, held in 1902 in Kharkov and were included in the exhibition catalogue under the numbers 1232 and 1233.
