Rus
XIII century
A helmet of unknown origin, transferred in 1894 to the Hermitage Museum from the Archaeological Commission, may have been found in the south of Ukraine. The helmet is conventionally designated as a “helmet from Ukraine”.
It should be noted that researchers usually find it difficult to refrain from identifying pure national types of weapons, such as “Russian”, “Mongolian”, etc. This approach seems simplistic and does not reflect the whole picture of the mutual intersection of weapons traditions and borrowings. One should be careful and not forget about the various mutual influences that are inevitable in cross-cultural interactions.
