In 1892, during the construction of the railway near the village of Nemiya, the former Mogilev district of the Podolsk province (Vinnica region), an iron helmet without a nosal with edges covered with a bronze gilded ornamental plate was discovered. The pointed-half-egg-shaped helmet was common in many countries; it is important that most of the finds were found among Western and southern Slavs, including Southwestern Russia. Note that the peculiarity of the Podolsk helmet is the absence of a nosal, which is typical for most European finds. Nose protection was often absent on early Russian helmets of the 10th century. In addition, the helmet from Nemia was not designed for a chainmail hood typical in the West, but was most likely equipped with a chainmail aventail, which also brings it closer to Russian combat headpieces.
